B+W Filter 486 UV/IR-Cut 39 mm Basic MRC. UV-cut filters are long pass filters that block the UV wavelength range and transmit the visible. It prevents color casts and blurring for digital cameras where the IR barrier in front of the image sensor still displays some residual transmittance. The 486 filter does not achieve this by absorption via colored glass, but by interference, a number of wafer-thin partially reflecting layers with a precisely calculated thickness. The B+W 486 UV-/ IR-Cut filter is clear and colorless and does not require any increase in exposure. It can also be left on the lens permanently as a protection filter. The B+W 486 UV-/ IR-Cut filter is MRC coated.
The UV-IR cut filter is a combination of a UV cut and a IR cut in one single filter using a UV cut absorptive glass with a thin film layer system as an interference IR cut coating.
B+W 486 UV-IR Block Filter

The B+W 486 UV-/ IR-Cut filter works ideally for lenses with an aperture angle up to 60°. The principle of such an interference filter is an aperture angle-dependent color influence that is dictated by physical principles, and as the angle of the incident light increases it drifts towards blue, i.e. for wide-angle lenses, from an aperture angle larger than 60°, the color reproduction at the edge of the image tends to lean towards bluish.
Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC)
MRC by B+W is not only an extraordinarily effective multiple layer coating, it is also harder than glass, so that it protects filters from scratches (for instance when cleaning the filters), and it is also water and dirt repellent, thus facilitating filter maintenance.

Basic filter ring
Basic filter ring is durable and robust due to brass mount with a better grip due to optimized knurl. Easier mounting due to new lacquer technology. Basic filters can be used on most lenses down to 24mm, size 24x36.
