Filtret finns med flera olika nivåer av softning och diffusering, från en mild softning och diffusion som endast tar bort oönskad krispighet/skärpa från bilden till kraftigare softning och diffusion som effektivt döljer skarpa linjer och som föryngrar intrycket av personen som porträtteras. Högdagrar i bilden från t.ex. ljuskällor och reflexer, får en behaglig softning och diffusion samtidigt som lågdager/skuggor behåller sin nyans och svärta. Finns i olika softningsgrad och storlekar.
