No camera has a built-in light meter that can measure flash light. You can, of course, use the camera's monitor to get an image of how the different light sources of the lighting match each other, but if you have a hand-held flash light meter, you can set the light with great accuracy so that everything is ready when the model is in place. Perfect when the family's dog or cat is to be photographed as you usually only have 1/125 of a second before the model gets tired and leaves :). Sekonic has good light meters that quickly give the right exposure and on some models you can even remote control the flash output.
