Softboxes – Bouncer
Light shaper that emits a soft light that can be controlled by the photographer. Softbox is available in several sizes and shapes under the name Octabox, Rectabox and Stripbox. Size and shape are chosen according to the character the light should have and how the reflection should look in the subject. Most of the time, the light from the softbox can be varied by removing the diffusion cloth on the front of the softbox or by supplementing with breaks that give the photographer increased control over the light flow.
Umbrella for photography
A real classic among light shapers. Easy to transport, fold up and photograph with. Available in several sizes, shapes and surfaces. Umbrella for bouncing the light towards its inside. Available with white surface or silver surface. This type of umbrella has when spreading the light but only in one direction because the umbrella fabric does not let light through. Umbrella that lets the light through the fabric. A transparent fabric that diffuses the light and creates a character similar to an octa-shaped softbox.
Reflector with accessories
Reflectors for studio flash are available in several sizes and shapes. Usually creates a slightly harder light than softboxes and umbrellas. Used both to light up large areas, as a background, or spot light a part of the subject, then in combination with breaks. In action sports, the High Performance reflector is very popular thanks to its ability to maximize brightness. Beauty and fashion photographers have the Beauty Dish / Softlite reflector as a favorite due to its ability to create accentuated portrait images.
Grids and barnsdoors for reflectors
Reflectors can often be combined with grids and/or barndoors. Both accessories are used to limit and concentrate the light flow from the studio flash. Raster gives a spot-like light with a quick transition to shadow. Perfect for creating a vignetting effect on the background or for lifting the front of the subject, e.g. the bouquet in the bride's hand.
Barnsoors are used to shield the light and the flaps can be angled to the desired position and are available in different sizes.
Colored filters - Gels
By moving colored filters on the light source, dramatic effects can be created, either on the background or directly on the subject. When using a colored paper background, try lighting the background with a color filter the same color as the background. The combination creates a background with color that can "pop" to the image properly.
Diffusers and shielding flags
Diffusing fabric and diffused vinyl are often used to dampen the harshness of a light source such as the sun or a studio flash. Available in a variety of materials, sizes and designs. Black fabric, flags or flags, effectively shields the light so that it does not reach parts of the subject that should lie in shadow. Can also be used to give a black reflection in chrome objects or greatly reduce the light on one half of the face during portrait photography.
