Elinchrom ONE and Elinchrom THREE have many similarities but differ in a few points that may be important to you when choosing which model to buy. Here we present some characteristics that distinguish them.
Size
At a quick glance at ONE and THREE they look quite similar. They have the same height-width, 10x10 cm, but the length is slightly different, ONE is 22.5 cm and THREE 24.5 cm. As for the difference in weight, ONE weighs 1.3 kg and THREE 1.45 kg.
Flash Power
With both flashes set to maximum output, THREE provides twice as much light as ONE.Both flashes provide the same amount of light at minimum output, 7 Ws for Elinchrom number 0.1, but at maximum output ONE shows Elinchrom number 4.3 (131 Ws) and Elinchrom THREE Elinchrom number 5.3 (261 Ws), which is an aperture stop difference.
Just like all other Elinchrom studio flashes, ONE and THREE have a design and technology which means that they very efficiently convert energy into light, which means that when compared to other flash manufacturers with corresponding specifications, they usually give much higher brightness.
Flash Duration
Both flashes have an extremely short flash duration at lower output power. At 7 Ws, Elinchrom number 0.1, Action Mode flash duration is 1/7000 second with ONE and 1/8500 second with THREE.At full power on ONE (Elinchrom number 4.3) the flash duration is 1/625 second. With THREE set to the same brightness of 4.3, the flash duration is 1/1400 second. All of these flash duration times are t0.1.
Price
If the budget is limited when you buy studio flash, the price is of course important. The price difference between ONE and THREE is about 25% and it can be easily justified if you need the higher brightness that THREE offers. If you already use Elinchrom studio flashes today, you can easily find out if the flash power of ONE covers your needs or if you need the extra power found in THREE.By noting which output power, = Elinchrom number, you usually work with on your Elinchrom flashes today, you can quickly determine whether ONE will cope with the task or whether the step to THREE is required. If you set your current Elinchrom flashes to 4.3 or lower, the ONE will cope with the task gallantly, but if you work with more light-demanding objects, the choice should fall on THREE or perhaps Elinchrom FIVE, which is another stop brighter than THREE.
