Manfrotto Reflector Panel Round

The collapsible reflector is excellent to use as a simple and effective additional light source to lighten up the subject's shadow details, etc. The reflector is folded during transport and stored in the included case. Photography is about more than just understanding how to work with a camera. Understanding light, how it scatters and bounces, is also important. Some objects absorb light, others bounce it back in a different direction. A reflector is an accessory that helps a photographer manipulate light by providing another surface for the light to bounce off. collapsible reflectors are inexpensive accessories that can have a big impact on your images

What is a collapsible reflector?

A collapsible reflector is simply a tool that reflects light. A reflector does not create light like a flash does, it simply redirects the existing light or sometimes redirects the light from a flash or studio flash.

This is important to understand for two reasons. The first is that the light from a reflector isn't any brighter than what's already there, so you can't use one to light a night portrait unless you're also using a flash or other light source. The other point to understand is that the quality of the light will match the quality of light present in the subject. For example, if you are shooting at sunset, the light bouncing off the reflector will have the same orange hue.

But there are some exceptions. collapsible reflectors come in different types and colors, and the color of the reflective surface can change the light reflected back. A traditional white reflector simply bounces the light, and that light is nice and soft. A silver reflector does not change the color of the light much, but it is a little brighter than light reflected from a white. Gold reflectors are designed to change the color of the light by warming it up a bit with an orange tone.

Five tips for how to use a collapsible reflector

Using a collapsible reflector is quite simple - simply hold it at an angle that reflects the light the way you want it. See how the light changes as you adjust the angle and find the angle that works best for your image. But there are a few tricks to getting the most out of a reflex.

1. Hold the collapsible reflector opposite a light source

If you hold the collapsible reflector opposite the light source, you get the most, or strongest, light. Depending on how much light there is, you can often still reflect light from other angles and positions. It simply doesn't reflect as much light.

2. Use a collapsible reflector to fill in shadows

Collapsible reflectors are good for fixing odd shadows. If the light is directly behind the subject, a collapsible reflector directly in front of the subject will help prevent a silhouette. If the light is coming from one side, you can use a collapsible reflector on the opposite side to fill in the shadows. Sometimes light is blocked by large objects. Placing a collapsible reflector near the object can help.

3. Try different angles

However, don't just limit the collapsible reflector to upright angles. Placing the reflector on the ground in front of the subject when taking a portrait can help prevent shadows under the eyes.

4. Attach the collapsible reflector to a stand

Of course, it is sometimes impossible to hold the reflector at the perfect angle and still take a picture. Ask for help if you can, or attach the reflector to a tripod or support it against something.

5. Consider distance

Remember that distance also matters. Remember that a large light source and a close light source create the softest light. Try placing the reflector closer to the subject if the light is too harsh

Four reasons to use reflectors in photography

1. Amplify a light source

If you have insufficient existing light and do not have a powerful light source at your disposal, a reflector will be your salvation. A reflector has a highly reflective surface, so it can help you make the most of any light source by redirecting the light to the desired object or setting. This feature makes reflectors a great choice for projects in dark and dimly lit environments, or if you're on a budget and want to get the most out of LED photography lights. Reflectors are generally portable and easy to carry around, unlike auxiliary light sources which are quite heavy. So if you're pressed for time and need a quick artificial light source that you can carry, a reflex lens is just what you need in your camera bag.

2. Spread a light source

Have you ever looked at a photo and been dismayed at the damage that too much flash or direct sunlight can do? An undiffused light source can destroy all features in a subject or an environment and create harsh shadows in the image. This problem arises because artificial light sources or direct natural light sources are generally unevenly distributed. Because of this uneven spread of light, the setting gets all the light, making it overexposed. This is why photographers use diffusers to soften the light effect. A diffuser works by evenly spreading a light source that passes through it so that the result is soft or diffused light. These often come with 5 in 1 reflex forms. The result is that you can illuminate an object or environment without creating strong contrasts, and make subtle features stand out. It is an essential tool for food and fashion photography.

3. Achieve special effects

A collapsible reflector can help you take control of the color tones and light intensity, which can help you create lots of special lighting effects. Think of a dark room with only one subject in focus, or an image of a model with only his/her eyes in focus
